Day 4 Activity 1: Making A Racket

  1. Hi Leah-Maree,
The gender pay gap is very unfair and an example of the current issue of sexism in the workfield. According to research 83% of sports claim to reward men and women equally yet statistics show otherwise. In New Zealand specifically there are changes underway with the Black Ferns now being paid a higher amount yet it is only pennys in comparison to what the All Blacks can make. Although this pay is mismatched and unfair there may be reason behind it, for example a longer calendar season, popularity for television and crowd audiences and brand endorsements. I believe the pay should be equal for equal work but I also understand that mens sport is often more popular than women's sport and thus they gain more money opportunities. What ideas would you implement to encourage a fair pay in the sporting community?

    1. Hi Zana
That is a lot of information you found out about the subject and it pretty much answers my question. I am not sure what I would do to help with the pay gap because many "solutions" I have come up with may not be seen as reasonable. Do you have any ideas on how to help.
