Maui ans the Giant Fish

Maui and the Giant Fish

A very long time ago. When Maui himself sailed the seas, there lived a young boy named (you guessed it) Maui who’s one dream (at the time) was to fish with his brothers for he wanted to have a part in the enjoyable deed that they performed.

Everyday Maui’s Brothers; Maui-mua, Maui-taha, Maui-pae, Maui-roto, and Maui-Tikitiki-o-Ta- ranga would go out fishing and catch many fish. And every evening when his brothers would reach their land again Maui would canvass with them to let him come, but they would always use the same excuse “Your will take up to much room meant for fish” or sometimes “Your so skinny we might mistake you for bait and through you in on accident” so after a while Maui got used to disappointment.

On day though he had gotten roasted for being to sort and skinny to many times and got very angry and decided to create a master plan. So that night when he was alone, he started making a fishing hook by weaving flax together into a sturdy rope. While he was creating his line, he chanted a kadakia until he finished it by weaving in a jawbone from his ancestors. Early the next morning before anybody else was up, he went out to his brothers canoe and suppressed away into the hull and started waiting.

When his sibling finally arrived, they began pulling the waka out to the water. During this time the brothers complain about the boat being heavier and that the others should cut back on the kumara until the oldest brother told them to shut it.A little while later when Maui heard them drop the anchor and realised that they were past the point of going back he revealed himself for all to see. His brother when flabbergasted but when the got their voices back Maui got many new words added to his vocabulary, but when he could finally get a word in he explained to them that he had been born to be a great fisherman and their ancestors had said so themselves.

Maui said to them that he would recite a kadakia and they would catch more fish then they ever had before. So the brother casted their lines and began catching fish straight away until their waka was filled. After they had finished Maui declared it was his turn and pulled out his rope. At this action as the brothers saw his line they burst out laughing “you can't fish with that” they said. Maui was a bit annoyed after that but just continued to asking them for some bait which just started a new round of laughter. Now feeling even more miffed, became his own bully and punched himself in the nose creating a flow of blood that he then started covering his hook with.

The hook sunk all the way down to the bottom of the ocean and caught on the biggest fish yet that started towing the whole boat across the ocean. The brothers pleaded with Maui to cut the rope by after awhile he began to gain so rope back, until finally he pulled to the surface a giant fish.

Maui and his brothers paddled closer to the fish and Maui commanded them to get out of the boat so he could go back to their island and fetch their people. As soon a Maui had departed from the fish, his brothers started chopping into the mighty fish and claiming gigantic portions as theirs. When Maui came back with his extended family they all witnessed the true greediness of the brothers. From then on all of Maui's people lived on the fish and it became the north island, and Maui's Waka became the south island.

The End
